The Dragoon Music Corps at Strömsholm

Powerful brass music will be performed in Strömsholm Palace with the Prince Carl sextet from the Life Guards' Dragoon Band.

The ensemble has taken the name of the 'blue prince', a late 19th century cavalry officer and commander from the Mounted Life Guards. This was a golden age for Swedish brass music. All the cavalry regiments had music corps which, alongside marches and ceremonial music, also played popular operatic numbers, dance tunes and festive music of the day.

Sweden has unique archive collections that have survived throughout history, unlike most other European nations that were ravaged by world wars. The Prince Carl sextet aims to breathe new life into this dormant musical treasury by performing it on original contemporary Swedish instruments.

The Life Guards' Dragoon Music Corps is one of the Swedish Armed Forces' three professional bands. It consists of full-time brass and percussion players. The brass instruments include trumpets, horns, euphoniums, tubas and trombones.
